Rivers State ministry of education says it is not true fifty students were raped in public schools in the state.
Commissioner for education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku who stated this at a meeting with heads of schools and Representative of FIDA in Portharcourt said, reports making the rounds about fifty cases of defilement in schools are false and a misrepresentation of fact.
He said contrary to the reports, only five cases of rape involving two public schools and three private schools while the other cases were carried out by care givers.
Professor KANIYE EBEKU stated that the ministry has suspended a teacher and student involved in sexual misconduct at Rumuokuta girls secondary school.
Also speaking, State Chairperson of FIDA, ADATABO- BRIGGS explained that FIDA has fifty defilement cases in court with five of those cases involving two public schools and three private schools.
